Full Sun & Polarised

BRIGHT SKIES & SUNNY | SPRING & SUMMER

When the sun is your biggest obstacle, these lenses make it your biggest advantage.

You're shopping in the right place if...

You shoot through spring and summer and regularly find yourself squinting into hard, bright skies. Your targets fly against a glare-heavy backdrop — whether that's a blazing blue above a high tower or light bouncing off a reservoir during a game day. You find yourself reaching for sunglasses on the drive to the shoot, and wishing you had proper shooting eyewear that matched the intensity of the day.

Full Sun lenses are built for conditions where unaided light transmission overwhelms the eye — typically when ambient brightness exceeds what your natural vision handles comfortably. These lenses reduce incoming light to a level where contrast is restored, your eye can relax, and targets become crisply defined against backgrounds that would otherwise wash them out.

Full Sun conditions typically mean:

  • Bright spring and summer days with little or no cloud cover
  • Clays driven across a hard blue or hazy white sky
  • Driven game and walked-up shooting on open moorland or farmland in clear weather
  • Sporting layouts where high towers present targets against direct or near-direct sunlight
  • Environments where glare from wet ground, open water or pale crops creates additional eye strain
  • Sunny days on any terrain including woodland estates where bright overhead light is the dominant condition

Four lenses. One category. Different shooters.

About FULL SUN

The Full Sun range gives you a choice of four lenses, each matched to a specific visual profile, shooting style and level of light sensitivity within bright conditions. Here's how to choose.

Graphite

Polarised | The Restful All-Rounder

Light Transmission: Low

A blue-grey polarised lens that retains true colour perception while eliminating reflected glare with exceptional efficiency. If you describe yourself as particularly light-sensitive — someone who finds bright days genuinely uncomfortable — Graphite is your lens. It reduces the fatiguing effect of high-intensity light without distorting the colours you rely on to track a target.

Graphite's true-colour retention also makes it the most versatile lens in the range beyond the shoot: superb behind the wheel, ideal for fishing, and effortless anywhere reflected glare is a nuisance. If you want one pair that does everything in full sun — on and off the ground — Graphite is it.

Best for: Light-sensitive shooters, glare-heavy open environments, those wanting a dual-purpose sport and lifestyle polarised lens.

Consider instead: Bronze or Amethyst if maximum target contrast is the priority over comfort.

Bronze

Polarised | The Bestseller. Ed Solomons' Choice.

Light Transmission: Low

Our bestselling lens and the one chosen by Edwards Eyewear Co-Director and World FITASC Champion Ed Solomons. Bronze is a warm, rich tint that brings out contrast without compromising depth perception — a critical balance when you're tracking a driven bird or reading the line of a crossing clay.

Where Graphite prioritises comfort and colour fidelity, Bronze leans into contrast. It eliminates glare and makes targets stand out more definitively against sky and background. Polarised technology strips reflected shimmer from water, crops and wet leaves so your eye focuses entirely on what matters.

Best for: Shooters who want high contrast with polarised glare-cutting in full sun. Crossers, driven birds, any presentation where target definition against bright sky is the priority.

Jade

Polarised | The Sun Killer

Light Transmission: Low

Inspired by the classic G-15 green sun lens — one of the most trusted tints in sporting optics — Jade takes that proven formula and pushes it further. We added premium polarised technology and a blue mirror coating to create our most aggressive glare-elimination lens.

The blue mirror coating reflects the most damaging and distracting wavelengths before they reach the lens surface. Behind it, the G-15-inspired tint keeps backgrounds natural and balanced, so your eye isn't fighting a colour cast while it searches for the target.

Best for: High-intensity summer shooting, open moorland, water-adjacent grounds. Shooters who find warm-toned polarised lenses slightly heavy will appreciate Jade's cooler, cleaner character.

Amethyst

Maximum Target Contrast on Green Backgrounds in Bright Sun

Light Transmission: Medium - Low

Amethyst is the intelligent Full Sun choice for shooters whose bright-day sessions regularly involve woodland rides, hedge-lined drives or any layout where targets pass against or near green foliage - under sunny conditions.

The deep purple with a hint of rose works simultaneously on two problems: it dampens green wavelengths in the background, making it significantly harder for a clay or game bird to vanish into trees or crops; and it enhances the perception of orange and red, so targets pop with greater definition at the moment of acquisition. It also improves the perception of contours, helping you read a target's trajectory earlier, when time to mount is short.

This is a bright-light lens. Its design advantage - dampening green backgrounds to lift orange targets  is unlocked specifically in sunny or high-ambient-light conditions where both the target and the foliage are lit. For overcast days or dark woodland environments, see Low Light.

Best for: Full-sun shooting against green or mixed backgrounds. Woodland and estate clays on bright days, driven pheasant in autumn sunshine, FITASC layouts through varied terrain. Particularly effective if you find orange clays disappearing against sunlit trees.

Hiroki Full & Polarised Sun FAQs

  • What is the best lens colour for shooting in bright sun?

For bright, sunny conditions, the Hiroki 2 is available in four Full Sun lenses: Bronze (Polarised) for maximum contrast and glare-cutting, Graphite (Polarised) for light-sensitive shooters who prefer true colour, Jade (Polarised) for the most aggressive glare elimination, and Amethyst for enhanced orange target visibility against green backgrounds in bright light.

  • Are polarised lenses good for clay shooting?

Yes — in bright-light conditions, polarised lenses cut reflected glare from wet ground, open water and pale backgrounds, allowing the eye to focus on the target rather than competing with environmental reflections. Edwards Eyewear's Graphite, Bronze and Jade lenses are all polarised and designed specifically for clay and game shooting in full sun.

  • What's the difference between Bronze and Graphite Hiroki 2 lenses?

Both are polarised full-sun lenses. Bronze is warmer in tone and prioritises target contrast — it's the choice if you want clays and game birds to stand out more definitively.

Graphite retains true colour perception and is more restful on the eye, making it the preferred option for light-sensitive shooters or those who want a dual-purpose sport and lifestyle lens.

  • Is Amethyst a full sun or overcast lens?

Amethyst is a Full Sun lens. Its advantage — using purple tones to dampen green backgrounds and make orange targets pop — is unlocked specifically in bright-light conditions where both target and foliage are well lit.

For shooting on overcast days or in low-light woodland environments, see the Overcast & Autumn or Low Light ranges.
